I completely disagree with this. Distinguish yourself by your work product. We are moving away from the 9-5 toxic paradigm. Start thinking progressively and make time your most valued asset.

Everyone starts doing it and it becomes normal. instead of distinguishing yourself you created a culture of overtime at your workplace where everyone loses except employer

Seen so many people go above and beyond in jobs then one day it clicks and they realise they’ll never be anything other than a number. Then they do the bare minimum

I did all that for 10 years, and what I received in exchange was more workload and 0 promotions. And the guy who always come 5 minutes late and only do one task just got promoted same level as me.

It's who you know, not what you know. Mr academia will get turned into the company work horse, with no corporate or financial rewards.

Totally agree with this, and people notice, and in turn they want to reward that. Which in turn makes you want to try harder !

There's always room to work 10% longer. The hard part is, how can I work 10% shorter and add the same value.

Not anymore, you'll just be expected to work more for the same money as the people with lower productivity. It's also likely you'll miss out on promotions for outside hires.

One man’s 20 hours is another man’s 40. Quality over quantity and as long as you don’t sacrifice quality then the timeframe it took you to do the job is irrelevant

I have always done this. I got raises when asked and worked up to management. And now I own my own business. And I make way more money now than I would working hourly.

😅 I did that for years. no promotion. 4x they gave a position to new hires or a coworker so inappropriate, he was transferred to another plant and I took over. it's insulting. done not getting mine.
