@thetrashwalker: I’m thrilled that Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy is coming to @netflix on November 20. • It’s truly radical - in a terrible dystopian way - the damage that we’re doing to people, other animals, and this planet in the name of “growth.” Infinite growth of material objects on a planet of finite resources is inherently impossible and paradoxical. Yet people, like me, who point this out and insist that we need to create new systems rooted in new ideals are accused of being naive and delusional and dangerous radicals. • But truly, what’s naive or delusional or dangerously radical: continuing the toxic death cult of business as usual, rooted in the fantasy that infinite growth on a finite planet is possible and measuring success in terms of quarterly corporate profit? Or composting this system and creating new ones rooted in respect for our planet’s physical boundaries, measuring success in terms of the wellbeing of humans, other animals, and this planet that sustains all known life in this universe? • I’m hoping this film will help people abandon the corporate capitalist fantasies and come back to reality. And it’s here, in reality that centers our connection to this planet and each other, that we’re able to find more meaning, wellbeing, and sustaining happiness. May this film be one of the many pieces that wakes us up to what’s better and possible and urgently necessary 🙏🏻
