This is just me, but min maxers aren't role players, they're gamers and honestly I hate min maxers in my campaigns. I RP first and foremost and WILL make suboptimal choices to push the RP narrative.

my table if you can't justify multiclassing for your character beyond mechanical implications than you can't multiclass must be true to your character

a chaotic knight just sounds wrong. rouges should be chaotic, and a paladin should be Lawful, all paladins have a code they must follow, and rouges are law breakers

Not D&D but BG3, but the only benefit I use from multiclassing into 7 ranger/1 rogue is sneak attack. Very situational and only ~3 more average dmg but feels pretty nice. I'm bad at optimizing my game
