Milk (warm) 1 TBS. Sugar 1 tsp. Salt 1/2 TBS. Shortening Mix together warm water and yeast; set aside. Meanwhile in a large bowl add milk, sugar, salt, and shortening; mix. Sift in 1 cup of the flour; mix until combined, consistency should be like a thick pancake batter. Mix in yeast mixture. Next mix in the remaining flour till the dough comes together into a ball. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes. When dough is smooth form into a ball and place in a greased bowl; cover and let rise for 1 hour and 30 minutes until dough has doubled in size. Punch down the dough. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes until the dough has doubled in size Turn the dough out; roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Roll dough up longways and seal as you roll. Seal the edges of the dough and tuck the excess under itself, place dough loaf into a lightly oiled loaf pan. Cover dough; let rise for 1 hour more until dough has doubled in size. Bake for 35 minutes in a 400°F oven. Remove from oven and turn bread out from pan. Brush the top of the bread with butter. Allow the bread to cool completely before slicing. Store bread in an airtight container/bag at room temp for 3-5 days or Freeze the bread for 4 months This bread is light and fluffy; perfect for sandwiches.
