One of the most profound steps in my healing process was when I abandoned this broken belief system sold to me by well-intentioned people of faith. Growing up, I was told that my past was under the blood of Jesus, and to visit that past outside of sharing my testimony was to deny what Jesus had done for me. As if connecting to the painful impact of my history was dismissing the power and sacrifice of Jesus. This toxic belief kept me cycling in behavior patterns that I couldn’t find solutions for and left me feeling stuck in shame and self-loathing. The truth is, Jesus is the perfect partnership to have when visiting our history. The nature of his love, forgiveness, and truth liberates us from the darkest moments and the ugly lies they perpetuate inside of us. I found my wholeness through bridging emotional health and faith. In fact, it was my faith in a radically loving creator who is fully committed to redeeming and restoring the messiest parts of humanity who was at the epicenter of defining my understanding of emotional health. And it’s through this process that I have experienced the abundant life that Jesus promised. This week on episode 317 of the The Connected Life Podcast we have an incredibly important conversation about the role of faith and emotional health as we explore ways to reconcile the two in a world where both are so desperately needed. -Justin You can watch the full episode on
