@londonzooofficial: Feeding our leeches a blood meal 🩸 We feed our adult leeches a sheep’s blood meal around once a month, but in the wild they can go up to a year without feeding. Medicinal leeches are now sadly one of the rarest animals in the UK, as combination of overharvesting and poor water quality has almost wiped out the species. At the Zoo we’re working to change that and champion this underappreciated parasite 🙌 #LondonZoo
