why don't they calculate the inheritance tax based on the average profits the farm has made instead of how much the land is technically worth

People are missing the point on the tax , just because you have a 10 million pound farm doesn’t mean you have 10million quid ,

If the next generation sell the farm or any inheritance then maybe there should be a tax, but to pass on and keep i dont think its fair at all especially when it comes to farms

So farmers have to sell. Gov get the money but then who is going to farm the farms that’s why they go down in generations it’s a life time of knowledge learnt from the family

Easiest thing would be to keep selling ground for houses for the people to live in then people would have somewhere to live ,oh but no food or open countryside to look at walk in ,

a farming couple get £3m inheritance tax free, and then a further 50% reduction on the next £2m. they'll only pay £400k on an asset worth £5m where anyone else would pay millions in tax on it

What I don’t actually understand is how labour thought this would work. So, family owned farms will be sold but only to ltd’s who will be able to afford the tax? How is this helping British farming?
