How to get rid of the red👇🏽 I often use bleach to mask red undertones before doing a paint wash. It’s such an easy way to get the color results I want. I use regular household bleach. Start with 50:50 bleach:water (I mostly use full strength now). You don’t need much. Paint it on w/ a paint brush (brush with the wood grain), sit it out in the sun for a few hours on a warm day and let the sun do the work. If there is still blotchiness, paint a 2nd coat on and set it in the sun. After multiple coats, one side didn’t want to dry, so I used my hairdryer to speed up the process. Once the bleach has dried for 24 hours, I spray a solution of water with vinegar to neutralize the bleach. BUT mixing bleach and vinegar is highly toxic so wait until the bleach has dried completely overnight. After it is dry, lightly sand to smooth the finish. Protective gear: Wear gloves, a mask and goggles and only bleach outside in a well ventilated area. There is also wood bleach if household bleach doesn’t work for you.
