@jamiepeva: As we know, 33rd Street was once known as 'Market Street.' Let’s take a moment to reflect on how fitting it is that it leads to the Georgetown Market, intersecting with both the River and the canal, and serving as the route to Frederick Town. For this reason, some of Georgetown’s oldest buildings are located along this street. Walk it sometime and pick them out! Today, 1430 is the subject of our discussion. I love this house; it reminds me of my old roommate Charles Spofford’s home in Bedford, New York—a beautiful family house, which is exactly what it has been for almost 300 years. Whether it was founder George Gordon’s family, Alexander Graham Bell’s good friend Dr. Appleby’s family, World War One hero and pilot George Wise’s, or World War Two General Dever’s, each family has stayed and left their mark on this house. We will post the virtual tour and floor plans soon, and I will be here on Sunday from 1-4. #GeorgetownHistory #HistoricHomes #VirtualTour
