Single-Use Plastic Sucks. We all know it. This Plastic-Free July, I’m ditching single-use containers from takeout and focusing on home-cooked meals. Here’s why: 〰️ 1. HEALTH BENEFITS : Recent studies have found microplastics in alarming places, including testes, the brain, and even fetal tissue. Minimizing exposure to these harmful particles that could be linked to autoimmune issues and cancers seems like the smart thing to do. 〰️ 2. SAVE MONEY: It’s a no brainer that home-cooked meals using whole foods are more cost-effective and nutritious than the convenience of takeout. I estimate I’ll save about $200-300 fully cooking at home. 〰️ 3. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Single-use plastics contribute to pollution, harm wildlife, and take hundreds of years to decompose. By avoiding them, we keep them out of our water ways and in turn out of our food chain & our bodies. However… it’s important to recognize that not everyone has the privilege to avoid plastics, especially where it’s essential for health and safety. Like having access to clean drinking water. Let’s not attach morality to single-use plastics, but if we have the choice and access, we can make changes — in turn forcing the hand of corporations to ditch plastic and reimagine supply chains. Even as someone deeply passionate and committed to reducing waste, I find it hard to completely avoid plastics because they’re simply evvvvvverywhere. It’s also challenging for businesses to quickly implement scalable solutions. That’s one of the reasons I joined @Kadeya — we’re committed to eliminating single-use plastic bottles by making beverage bottle reuse and on-demand bottling as convenient and cost-effective as single-use options. Join me this month in the global #PlasticFreeJuly movement to ditch plastic. #plasticfree #plasticfreechallenge
