9-Year-Old Girl Raped, Killed By Chemist Who Claimed To Be Treating Her For Malaria In Kano Some Retirees Receive N500 Monthly Pension – Union NNPC refutes $6.8bn debt claims, clarifies federation account remittances Tragedy struck in Jaba, Fanisau Unogo Local Government Area of Kano State, where a 9-year-old girl, Rumaisa Sadiq, was allegedly raped and murdered by Manir Mai, a ‘chemist’. Rumaisa's father, Malam Sadiq Badamasi, had taken his three children to a local health facility in Jaba, run by Manir Mai, seeking treatment for their fever. While two of the children were treated and sent home, Manir Mai allegedly advised that Rumaisa, the eldest, be admitted due to her critical condition, which required urgent medication. When Malam Badamasi returned to check on his daughter Rumaisa, he was horrified to find her condition had severely deteriorated. Upon undressing her, her mother discovered severe bleeding. Unaware of the sinister circumstances, they rushed Rumaisa back to the same chemist, who finally acknowledged the gravity of her condition and advised taking her to a nearby hospital. She was finally admitted to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Her father received the heartbreaking news from doctors at the hospital that his daughter, Rumaisa, had been brutally raped, suffering forced penetration from both the front and back. The alleged perpetrator, Manir Mai Chemist, was promptly arrested and charged with two counts of rape and homicide. Alhassan Musa, the Secretary of the union in Kaduna State, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the condition of the returnees as “pathetic”. “The worst affected are pensioners in most of the Southern and oil-producing states in spite of getting fat allocations from the federation account. The condition of pensioners in some Northern states and the FCT are far better as some of them received between N3,500 and N18,000 monthly pension”. Musa, who is also the NUP scribe in charge of the northern states, however, said that only retirees in Kaduna State were earning N30,000 minimum pension monthly. According to the NNPC Ltd., the $6.8 billion debt claim is incorrect. While acknowledging that oil trading transactions are commonly conducted on credit, the company stressed that it does not owe such an amount. Regarding allegations of non-remittance to the Federation Account since January, NNPC Ltd. clarified that both the company and its subsidiaries regularly remit taxes to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
