Tape measure housing has the length stamped on it, just run the tape out until the back of the housing hits the edge. Typically, 3.5”, add that to your shown measurement and that’s your length.

First is useless, tape body has mark, you can fully put it inside, read the score and add digits marked on the body, easy.
