I’m not well-travelled but every single person I know that travels a lot is progressive as hell. I don’t know actual stats on this but anecdotally, it doesn’t hold up.

This is why cities are generally more progressive. A free exchange of ideas and cultures promotes tolerance. Closed off insular areas like small towns promote fear of differences.
