IMO, a key aspect of the "crisis friend" is the lack of reciprocal support. They'll expect you to drop everything at a moment's notice to help them, but never return the favor and try to downplay (1)

I was the crisis friend. I did not know i had bipolar and it made it difficult to navigate my emotions. I got on meds though and I am no longer the crisis friend.

it was a "crisis friend" mixed "Nothing is my fault" and "I want attention" and "my problems are more important than your problems." don't know why I held onto that friendship for more than 10 years.
