Because during the great fire of london, people used to keep parakeets but had to free them because of the fire, and because there was lots of them, they adjusted to their new habitat and are now wild

Alexander the Great brought pet Ring-necked Parakeets to Greece in 327BC, and the Alexandrine Parakeet was named after him. The Romans were fond of the birds too, and many were kept in the Empire

The first recorded sighting of a parakeet in the UK was in Norfolk in 1855. Other early sightings include Dulwich in 1893 and Brixton in 1894...today they are thriving
