Hadestown opened on Broadway in 2019 and 7 years later it’s still hitting 95% to 100% capacity week to week. Those are legs, y’all! This show didn’t win 8 Tony’s for nothing, and I’ll be completely honest, I’m a fan, but I’m not a fan like some of these FANS! I didn’t even go to the theaters to see the pro shot which made a ridiculous amount of coin. But for those who haven’t seen it, it is a gorgeous piece of theater & art which uniquely blends classical myth, poetic staging, and a genre-defying score. I won’t go into the storyline because most of you Broadway babies know it by heart and you’re here to see the new cast. I was lucky to see the OG cast including Patrick Page (who is my next door neighbor btw) as Hades, Amber Gray as Persephone, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, Reeve Carney as Orpheus, and André De Shields as Hermes and they were the razzle-dazzle of all the casts, I don’t care who else you come at me with, I said it, I meant it, I’m here to represent it! Everyone has their favorites, and most will agree with me, but like a lot of people who see their first casts, they always have a different opinion, imo. So let’s get to this talented cast led by Gary Dourdan as Hades (from CSI), Max Kumangai as Hermes, John-Michael Lyles as Orpheus, Gaby Moreno as Persephone, and Jordan Tyson as Eurydice. Max Kumangai and Gaby Moreno were rock stars, both their voices were uhhhh-mazing and they stole the show at every moment they stepped into the spotlight. The rest of the cast were great and solid and I can’t take anything away from them. They have a new fresh take on their characters and that’s a great thing, it would be boring if everyone just tried to mimick the OG’s from the past. As a whole, it’s been a hot minute since seeing the show, and I was so pleasantly reminded to see that stunning visual design evoking both a New Orleans barroom scene and a smoldering mechanical underworld, complemented by the motion of turntables, a rollicking band, the bold performances and expressive choreography. Another one I need to remind myself to add to the list of must-sees for out of towners. Here is the eye and ear candy “Wait For Me.” Very mid recording, sorry y’all FDT HARD 💙 #broadway #fyp #hadestown #slimetutorial #broadwaymusicals
