It was invented when good food was expensive and they wanted to make something fun for their kids to eat. So its a great depression food that also became important due to nostalgia

The bread and sprinkles taste different in America so it doesn’t taste like real fairy bread

Theory: It's the mom-making rule. You know how things used to taste better when your mom made it, even ramen or a glass of water? That's because the food /drink had time to sit. Temperatures equalized. Instant seasoning packets dissolved. Meat rested. Juice and oil soaked in. I think that's maybe the deal with fairy bread. It needs to sit for 10-20 minutes so the butter can soak into the bread and the 100s and 1000s. I'm an American and haven't had it but imagining the sprinkles would soften up over time.

If you never had fairy bread as a kid, having it as an adult is just meh. For the kids that had it it is imprinted in our brains to like it lol

As an Australian, every time I’m somewhere that has fairy bread, I immediately have to eat a piece and then I’m forced to acknowledge that nothing is ever as good as I remember it being as a kid

I have a theory that it tasted better in childhood because it was made well in advance so the 100's & 1000's softened up in the butter before we ate it, I'm not going to test it though

Fairy bread is only good because it’s got the childhood memories attached to it. It was the quick sweet ‘savoury’ part of a birthday party. Add sausage rolls, little red sausages, ice cream cake, and
