Being from rural WV I knew immediately why there was an air raid siren. My aunt used to live right beside the fire station and it would go off at all hours.

We have an emergency whistle in my town too. Either they don’t blow it at night or I just sleep soundly enough. They do blow it at night for tornadoes though, so that’s a fun nuance for my children
