There are always downsides. I use cloudflare tunnel instead, but that just bypasses my firewall... So I have to play with vlans etc to control it again. But... No port forwarding 🤷

Maybe just using nginx, haproxy or maybe an F5 LTM to reverse proxy any services

technicly port forwarding is used for NATing in larger network you'll used something called ACL's with routing
