adding oil will seal any gasket better than a dry surface as it fills microscopic scores or defects a proven method for sure. also stops it from sticking.

that method was used on old asbestos gaskets not on metal gaskets this is wrong

Cork gaskets is one thing. Metal gaskets should go on dry… the new plastic stuff probably wouldn’t be bad with some oil on it
