Yesterday was #nationalhorseprotectionday . There is so much I could say.. so much anger.. so much resentment. But I will choose to focus on the positive. WE, collectively.. all of us here at HHHH, fellow rescues, animal advocates, and the like.. are changing the fate of so many lives. Keeper here.. is one of them. It is more common than not for old workhorses to ship to sl@ughter for the simple facts of, A. Their size. And B. By the time they are dumped at auction.. they are worn down, emaciated, crippled.. and unable to offer any form of service. Many can’t be ridden and they most certainly can’t be put to work. And unfortunately.. having a 2,000lb pasture mate that eats their weight in grain and hay.. isn’t an option for many people. The thought of any horse (or animal) shipping to sl@ughter breaks my soul, but what keeps me up at night is those that are too weak to even survive the tractor trailer ride out of country. I picture them falling and being trampled by other scared horses… stuck for hours on end with no food or water. So many of these horses are so exhausted they just want to lay down. We have 57 equines in our care, including donkeys, but most of which, are old Belgians and percheron’s who were once destined to load on that horrific tractor trailer to their fate. Now.. they are free, safe, retired.. and oh so loved. Thank you HHHH family for helping to change the world.. thank you for being the small rain drop in the massive ocean.. creating a ripple affect to change minds and hearts. Let’s continue saving lives, and working together to create a better world for all. : . #endhorseslaughter #savelives #rescue #animalrescue
