Disrespect is a tone. So you can ask but the way you ask is what matters. You can have a voice and still have respect

I disagree. My fathers house, my fathers rules. He asks me to do the dishes, I'll do it straight away no questions asked. In return I get food in my stomach, clothes on my back and a roof over my head

A lot of parents think a kid asking for an explanation is disrespectful. They just want to know why. Which nothing is wrong with that.

only in today's time. if you are told to do the dishes by your parents, do them. if you allow a child to debate with his parents, It will never end

Facts. I grew up living silence= respect. I absolutely let my kids ask questions w/o being disrespectful… they’re small humans

You can be strong minded and independent with your friends, but as a parent I demand respect. I grew up respecting my parents or it didn’t go well for me. And still didn’t follow the in crowd

My family thinks my daughter “disrespectful” because I let her have a voice one that I didn’t have at her age and I push my daughters confidence and make them have boundaries even with adults

THIS ‼️Questioning for clarity is not disrespect its a learning process. Blind faith in authority can be SO dangerous. Better to have a kid who questions things and can think critically

Ok so what do u do when they say no because it doesn’t make sense to them? Do you then say ok and then do the dishes yourself? At some point, the answer is because I said so.

sir, those are 2 different things... if I say go do the dishes, then go do the dishes.... if I say, go paint the house-I expect a 'why?' from you. Cause it's not a norm thing...kid say let's skip

But are you asking why out of rebellion or true care/concern? Fine line with this method. Sometimes even as adults it's better to hush and do as you're told. No need to debate everything.

my children are allowed to correct me. they can tell me their feelings. they are not allowed to "demand" things. we discuss issues. they are 3 and 5
