@cspanofficial: Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Thursday said he would not step down from his position if President Trump asked him to do so. Mr. Powell gave a terse “no” when asked by a reporter, later adding that it was “not permitted under the law.” Mr. Powell, a lifelong Republican, was first appointed by President Trump in 2017 and then reappointed by President Biden in 2021. His current term ends in May 2026. President Trump clashed with Mr. Powell during his first term and threatened to fire him on several occasions. However, he told Bloomberg News in July that he planned to keep Mr. Powell on for the remainder of his term. #federalreserve #jeromepowell #donaldtrump #cspan
