With so much advertising that Kaunta is Singapore’s Tsujihan, I decided to finally give it a try. Although I enjoyed my meal, it was a nice Kaisendon with the same style of sashimi on the side and hot broth towards the end, I was a little disappointed that the quality and generosity was lacking from the orginal Tsujihan I had in Japan a couple months back. (If you do not know, Tsujihan is a famous kaisendon restaurant in Japan) Firstly, as you can see from the two videos, Tsujihan had so much more ingredients and the ingredient to rice ratio was basically above a one-to-one, however, Kaunta’s was more like 30 ingredients to 70 rice. Second, I could taste that the ingredients were not as fresh and there was less textural variety in the mix of sashimi used in Kaunta’s bowl. And lastly, but most importantly, the broth that served was a little fishy which threw me off. If I were to look at Kaunta alone, I would say that they do offer quite good value and it was an enjoyable meal overall. With bowls starting from $19.90++, I guess it is a decent price. Anyways, sashimi is always fresher at the source right?
