@khayafraites: I know this has been scary week for all of us and if you are reading this I want you to know my page is a safe space for everyone. I’ve also been seeing a lot of discourse about whether Booktok/Bookstagram should be political or not but the fact of the matter is, Reading is political. Literature is protest. Education is protest and since we are going under new leadership that wants to ban our books, we should be reading more now than ever. It was James Baldwin who said “You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.” So if you want a little bit of escapism from what’s going on in our country and our cities, I highly recommend you go see what’s kicking in Gotham. Jade Aidia’s Barbara Gordon is Black and she’s doing what Black Women and Girls have always done best: Serve and Better her community.
