Bolivia is voting today in one of the most pivotal elections in its modern history. For the last 20 years, the socialist party MAS has dominated Bolivian politics. But now the party is fractured: Evo Morales is banned from running, President Luis Arce stepped aside, and MAS supporters are split between the official candidate Eduardo del Castillo and Evo’s protégé Andrónico Rodríguez, who’s running under a new coalition. That division has opened the door for right-wing contenders Samuel Doria Medina and Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, who are leading the race as frustration grows over extreme inflation, fuel shortages, and hours-long lines for basic goods. If no candidate wins outright, Bolivia will head to a runoff in October. The outcome could end two decades of socialist rule and reshape politics across Latin America. What happens here won’t just matter for Bolivia — it could signal a broader shift in the region. 🌎
