I quite often start a sentence with "Because...." and people try to pull me up for it. When I did a "Plain English for communication " course, they said reputable newspapers use it

It's a bit like ending sentences with prepositions, or using less/fewer incorrectly. Not great, but both have fallen into the category of common usage.
