Love this advice! Not sure about the cooking toxins out of food part, ventilation is for removing harmful fumes from using gas ranges/stoves, smoke that could set off the fire alarm, or bad smells.

The original owner of my home was a carpenter and he built pull out shelving in the pantry and lazy Susan’s in the corner cabinets. It’s one of my favorite things about the kitchen 🥰

I’m a “no island in a u-shaped kitchen” girlie. Nothing more irritating than having to walk around the dang island to get something. Island open to dining is fine.

I’m not a designer but 15yrs ago that was my thinking process lol. I’m a big girl and the kitchen is really where everyone loves to gather lol. Glad I did make this decision.

Thoughts on sink in island, directly opposite the range? I sell countertops & this is the only layout I see nowadays! It seems like it’d be so crowded.

my cabinets don't have pull out shelves. I always feel like I don't have enough storage but the reality is I can only use the front halves of the shelves unless I want to get on my hands and knees

We redid our kitchen last year. Had a TON of unused space, so made the island much larger. That being said, still maintained the 4ft you mention and thought “ugh, should we?” SO glad we did!
