Leonardo has confirmed that it has offered the Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon Tranche 5 fighter aircraft to the Philippines' Department of National Defense to meet the requirements for Multirole Fighter Aircraft for the Philippine Air Force. In an interview with Aviation Week, Leonardo's VIce President for Eurofighter Typhoon Exports Constantino Pravini Rosati said that Leonardo was designated by the Eurofighter Consortium to lead the campaign to offer the Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon Tranche 5 to the Philippines in 2023, as the PAF then sent a Request for Information (RFI) to them. Based on the PAF's allocated budget for 40 aircraft, Leonardo confirmed that it can supply 32 of its Eurofighter Tranche 5 fighters, together with a package that include a full range of available munitions namely the MBDA Meteor beyond visual range air-to-air misisles, ASRAAM short-range air-to-air missile, Brimstone air-to-ground missiles, and Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missile, among others. Leonardo confirmed that the offer will be made through a Government-to-Government deal, supported by financing schemes to spread the payment over time, as well as an option for the local manufacture of Typhoon components that would make the Philippines the first Eurofighter supply base in the Asia Pacific region, which would allow the support the PAF's Eurofighters as well as those from European countries when they are deployed in the region. The training of PAF pilots is expected to be undertaken at the International Flight Training School in Sardinia, Italy. Also, since Italy and Spain have an ongoing order for more Eurofighters, the Philippines might be given a slot in the production line, which would allow the PAF to get the initial batch of Eurofighters by as early as 2028 if a contract is signed by 2026. Leonardo is confident that the Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 5 can "credibly contrast the opposer", which may be referring to fighter aircraft from China including the PLA Air Force's J-10, J-11 and J-16 fighters, and the PLA Navy's J-15 fighter, and probably even their 5th generation fighters like the J-20 and J-35. It would be noted that the Eurofighter alresdy proved itself against American 5th generation fighters like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II in exercises. Aside from fighter aircraft, Leonardo is also looking at other potential opportunities including sales of theur M-346 or M-345 trainer aircraft for the PAF's Trainer Jet requirements, Electronic Warfare systems, military and VIP helicopters, ground-based air defense systems (with cooperation with MBDA), and cybersecurity systems and services. With this, it's clear to say that the PAF's Multirole Fighter project is a confirmed competition between the Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab Gripen, F-16 Block 70/72 Viper, and the KF-21 Borama CREDITS TO AIRBUS DEFENSE MAXDEFENSE lPH #Leonardo #Eurofighter #philippines #Airbus #philippineairforce
