Have you ever heard of the SNAIL METHOD of starting seeds?! Neither had I, until I saw a reel from this creator on Instagram named @faridasober, (I hope I pronounced your name right!) shared a few days ago. Please go check out her page and see her beautiful garden, her healthy and beautiful looking seedlings, and her method of starting seeds via the snail method. You can start seeds this way, or use it to pot seedlings up. You can even expand the snail roll to accommodate more soil when the seedling gets larger. There is lots of length for roots in my bubble wrap snail! I’ve done 2 so far and I’m hooked! I’ve seen a lot of gardening hacks over the years, a lot of them can be very gimmicky, but this one I think has the potential to work really well. As you can see on Farida’s page, her seedlings look strong and healthy and tall, so I am jumping in with both feet on trying this new method this season! I am basically following what I’ve seen on her page, and experimenting a little bit myself with different materials for the actual snail roll. So far I have tried one with bubble wrap, and one with an old cardboard pasta box. I figure if you can start seedlings in a newspaper cup. Why not try the cardboard lol. She’s had really great success with onions in really large rolls, where she’ll to transplant in those. I believe she uses packing foam rolls for her snails. I heard her mention sandwich bags as well. This could be a game changer for me this year, since I only have one five shelf seed starting rack. I’m super excited to see how the potting up goes over the next few weeks!
