I have no rules for my adult children either. They're spread out across the country. This summer, THEY all coordinated a visit to come see us. It was glorious.

I'm now 40, and my mom is like this. And I-and my brothers- will move mountains to be home together, for holidays, and to see our amazing mother whenever possible. Good moms make kids want to see them

the people in the comments disagreeing... kids with healthy attachment from a good childhood will WANT to call home in hardship and in celebration. we don't need to bind them to us if WE as parents

I feel like she hears from her adult children regularly because they love their mom that is like this. people will still gravitate towards their mothers if they were good moms.

I always tell my kids (10 and 13) that it’s not their job to make me happy. It’s my job to make me happy and provide unconditional love to them. What they give me is a gift not an expectation

I can’t love this enough! I’ve spent most of my life (throughout my childhood and adulthood) being guilt tripped by family who forget the phone/door works both ways…I wont do that to my kids!
