Just over here delivering life advice to our (sleeping?) 2 year old son…😂 I know he doesn’t understand nor will he remember these conversations (and there’s a chance he was sleeping😂) but over the years I have frequently rambled out loud about ideas and concepts I find important and want to instill in our children. I try my best not to push them in any particular direction, only to share some observations based on my 36 years on this tiny planet which also become small reminders to myself as much as advice to the tiny humans we’re trying our best to parent. I wish for the Olympics to be an option for all who voluntarily pursue them but I also wish for the Olympics not to be the standard by which we measure success. We’ll support whatever it is they decide to pursue but I secretly hope that competition, especially at the highest level, is not of interest to our children. You can be a ‘leader,’ an icon, a badass, an inspiration without the affirmation of a time clock or competition judge. I’ve watched enough retrospective documentaries and read enough biographies and even wrestled with a personal competitive fire to know that the pursuit of being the best oftentimes comes with a mountain of regrets. ‘Do what you love for a ‘living’ and you’ll never work a day in your life’ as the old saying goes but once ‘doing what you love’ becomes directly tied to how you ‘make a living’ it can become a slippery slope. I want snowboarding (and other activities they love) to be the outlet, the therapy, the joy; not the means by which success is measured and money is earned. Their feelings may differ (and maybe mine will evolve too) and that’s totally alright. I’m just here sharing my feelings as they surface during this crazy journey that is parenting. #fatherson #fatherhood #dadlife #LifeAdvice #wholesome #Love #familytime
