@guardian: Tens of thousands of delegates have gathered in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, for Cop29, the UN’s annual climate conference, hoping to chart a course for limiting further damage. Azerbaijan has a claim to be the world’s first petrostate, and is still dependent on oil and gas for 90% of its export revenues. On the first day of Cop 29, Swedish activist and international climate crisis campaigner Greta Thunberg asks why, during rapidly escalating climate and humanitarian crises, another authoritarian petrostate with no respect for human rights is hosting such an important event.
