@the_blazing_redcoat: The Greatest Last Stand in History ⚔️ ———— The Battle of Thermopylae (480BC) was fought in the narrow mountain pass at Thermopylae, Southern Greece. A force of around 7,000 Greeks led by Spartan King Leonidus I faced an army of up to 300,000 Persians, managing to hold them for three days before being outflanked. At this point, Leonidas dismissed most of his army, staying behind with 300 Spartans and a few hundred other Greeks to perform perhaps the greatest last stand in history. Before invading, Xerxes implored the Spartan king Leonidas to surrender his arms. Leonidas famously replied, “Come and take them” (“Molon labe”).
