Get a Macbook Air. An iPad may be able to do 90% of what you need, but a Macbook can do 100%. You don‘t need the newest. As long as it has M1 in it, it will be enough to get through college.

Get them a Mac. They need to learn keyboard shortcuts, note taking, file management and organization, and an iPad will just be slow for that. They’ll also probably do a bunch of presentations
