@sbsnews_au: Israel's finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, says he’ll push to annex parts of the occupied West Bank, hoping for support from incoming US President Donald Trump. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office is yet to respond to his comments. During the previous Trump presidency, the United States reversed its longstanding policy, and said West Bank settlements did not violate international law. Trump's then-secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, also made an unprecedented visit to a Jewish settlement. The Palestinian Authority, which governs parts of the West Bank, called the comments a “colonial and racist extension of the ongoing campaign of extermination and forced displacement against the Palestinian people.”
