I'm genuinely shocked how many people in the comments think maternity pay is full pay 😅
Also companies claim back SMP from the government so they wouldn't be out of pocket.

It is a pisstake starting immediately going on mat leave then returning and doing it again would fold smaller businesses

not fair on the staff left to pick up the work especially if it's a back to back maternity leave.

Imagine paying someone the equivalent of probably 3 years salary for a total work time of about 5 months 🤣

People in these comments seem to have forgotten that the country needs people to have children for the country to maintain a workforce

Tbh I do think you shouldn’t be able to do back to back mat leave with the same pay

There should be a clause which protects businesses from excessive maternity leave. The company needs to be productive and by taking leave again it affects work flow.

Why does it matter? An employer can claim back what they paid out in SMP from HMRC. They wouldn't be out of pocket. The only problem would be finding suitable maternity cover.

So the company has to hire another staff member and keep paying her. No wonder she was sacked. The law needs changing.

As someone who’s self employed, I actually see both sides lol. If I don’t work I don’t get paid 👍🏻

just have a rule in place where maternity leave is provided once every 2 years. birth control is not difficult

Imagine being so brainwashed you think employers should have a right to determine other people’s rights to have children as they see fit, instead of just taking into account that these things happen..
