I took my mom to the gym the other day and gave her this exercise to do. She has a history of low back pain from a previous disc herniation. She followed along my personal workout (with modifications of course) and was surprised that she didn’t experience any back pain even though we did back extensions and good-mornings. A common misconception we have as society is that if you have back pain you should avoid any exercise that places stress directly on the spine. This mindset is completely unhelpful because if you stress or load the spine then it cannot get stronger or more resilient. This plays off exactly what I explained in my previous video about pain and tissue tolerance. You should never do an exercise if it causes you pain. Instead, look for modifications to complete the exercise in a way that works for you. This could mean lightening the load, adjusting the range of motion, or any number of small tweaks. At the end of the day, movement is medicine. If you want to heal your body you have to get moving. #backpain #goodmorning #beginnerexercises
