@about.arthistory: Made from Limoges and English porcelain. They are coated with crystal glazes, which form crystals at high temperatures (1100–1300°C). These crystals are typically zinc silicate, known as willemite. To create the effect, the pieces are first fired at about 1300°C to melt and allow excess glaze to flow off. The temperature is then lowered and held steady, giving time for crystals to grow. Because the glaze becomes very fluid, special support containers catch any overflow and protect the kiln. After firing, the vessels are carefully separated from these supports and polished on a diamond grinding wheel to remove any remaining glaze or porcelain residue. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, shaped by natural variations in crystal growth.
