Why not fill the tube in one tank, then cover one side with your hand and transfer that side over to the other tank, then release?

As someone who used to work in a tiny aquarium and had to siphon many tanks with this method of starting a tube, Ive had aquarium water in my mouth. Not fun but it was a right of passage 😔

so, fun fact is that you don't actually need to make the water levels even... once you get the tube set up water will move from the higher level to the lower level until they are even

I love all of this! I just hate be this person. Your rabbit snail. Those guys need a minimum of 20 gallons. 10 gallon is okay but they do prefer sand and some rocks.
