Brits have been left reeling in the wake of Storm Darragh after 90mph gales toppled trees, caused buses and cars to drive off the roads and left thousands without power. Thousands of people across the UK have woken up to no electricity, while fallen trees blocked roads and crushed cars in several parts of the country. The storm caused carnage overnight on Friday, with gusts of up to 93mph recorded in Capel Curig in North Wales, while wind speeds of 72-78mph were recorded along the coasts of Wales and Northern Ireland. Residents of the most impacted areas in Northern Ireland as well as the western coasts of Wales and England have been urged to stay indoors amid warnings that flying debris and falling trees could pose a danger to life. The Energy Networks Association said 86,000 homes in England, Scotland and Wales are without power. Around 385,000 customers have been reconnected overnight, with more than 1,000 engineers ready to be deployed, it added. Darragh has also brought widespread travel disruption along the east coast, with the Prince of Wales Bridge, M4 and the Severn Bridge, M48, which connect South West England to Wales closed due to strong winds. Sports events across the UK and Ireland have also been thrown into disarray, including a Premier League match between Liverpool and Everton which has been cancelled due to safety fears. Multiple severe weather warnings are currently in place, with an amber warning for wind covering of Northern Ireland and the western coasts of Wales and England, while the whole of England and Wales are covered by a yellow warning for wind until tomorrow. #news
