Kristi Noem (R-SD) was nominated Tuesday by President-elect Trump to lead the Homeland Security Department. “Kristi has been very strong on Border Security,” the president-elect said. “She will work closely with ‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan to secure the Border, and will guarantee that our American Homeland is secure from our adversaries.” The second-term governor was on the VP shortlist but sparked a firestorm with her book released earlier this year in which she boasted about killing her dog and included a fictitious story about meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. If confirmed, she would oversee the third-largest federal agency that has a discretionary budget of about $62 billion.
