Right before ftx my drill asked anyone who'd been homeless to raise their hands. I was 1of3. He said "don't look down on these men, because they are more prepared than any of you for what's coming"

The absolute loneliest feeling is not having anyone at family day or graduation. It’s a feeling I’ve never forgotten.

One of my DS wrote on my picture book that he would be proud to go to battle with me, he will never know but that still today meant the world to me. 😭😭😭

My father was like that and it was teachers and other personnel that picked me up out of the darkness along the way.

When my dad met my favorite DS he shook my dads hand and said “I hope my daughter is half the woman yours is” My dad (USMC Vet) teared up with what I assume was pride. The longer story is I broke my pelvis on the last ruck and kept going. DS stayed by my side the whole time ♥️

I saw my drill Sgt in Afghanistan while I was contracting. He is still in. I didn’t say hi though. He seemed busy but it was like seeing a teacher outside for the first time 😂😂😂

I “adopted” Marines on family and graduation day. It broke my mama heart when a couple of them told me their family was less than an hour away. Any of you that didn’t have fam there that day, you’ve

100%…break them down and build them up! The 2nd part of that being the most important in the process. Sometimes the first positive role model people have in their lives.

My wife and I both had the same DS in AIT. He made such an impression on us that years later we named our middle child after him. Thanks again DS Clayton.

Can't love this enough. I saw parents on family day. Some of these kids didn't have the support they needed.

This hit home. Not only was everyone I cared about against my choice to enlist, they didn’t show up to any of my graduations. The military is the best thing I ever did for myself.

my drill instructor still has a spot right there. He was one for the only ones in my platoon that ever thought I'd do something. He said to me the last day. One day you'll become a man and you will look back and see that you did a lot of work to get there. You made me proud. he said this right before taking off his EGA from his hat and handing it to me. Had 5 shin splints on one leg going up the reaper and still was I the front of my platoon. When I finally fell from the pain he looked at me and said You made it this far and you might be the smallest but you ain't the weakest get up and keep moving. I finished the last 3 weeks of boot camp and got to graduate but got dropped from MCT due to the stress fractures.
