There's a story behind why this price never moves, and it's not complicated, it's basically one man refusing to let it happen. When former CEO Craig Jelinek once floated raising the price, Costco co-founder James Sinegal reportedly told him "if you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you." That combo has stayed $1.50 ever since, through every recession, every supply chain crisis, and every round of inflation since the mid-1980s. Here is what makes this more than just a funny story. Costco sold nearly 200 million of these combos last year alone, and if the price had actually tracked inflation the way almost everything else has, it would cost around $4.40 today. Instead it's still $1.50, which means Costco is intentionally eating that cost difference on every single one they sell, by the hundreds of millions, year after year. This is the same lesson as the Arizona Iced Tea example, a company can absolutely protect a price point for decades if they're willing to treat it as a loss leader instead of a profit center. Most companies choose differently, and most customers never get told that was ever a choice in the first place. Follow us for more!
What’s it worth now?? The greatest card of generational athlete @Erling Haaland is leaving my personal collection 3 years ago I bought Erling Haaland’s 1/1 Rookie Superfractor for $365,000 — a decision I made after spending some time with him and seeing firsthand his unbelievable commitment to Soccer (yes, soccer). I decided to go all-in on his trading cards… and I’m finally letting 2/3 of them go As of this post, he’s scored 4 goals in his first two games in the World Cup, and imo we’re witnessing the rise of a future 🐐 HAALAND, HAALAND 🇳🇴 Check out the card rn on Goldin.com, auction closes July 2 @Ken Goldin
