@surualifupi: Lome, May 1973: Dahomey's President, Lieutenant-Colonel Mathieu Kerekou, arrives at the Togolese capital of Lome for a one-day visit. Karekou was received by his Togolese counterpart President, Général Gnassingbé Eyadéma. In a joint communique issued after their meeting, the two leaders pledged their support for the West African economic organization - OCAM (Organisation Commune Africaine et Mauricienne) and the liberation movements across Africa actively seeking independence from European imperial powers. Dahomey was officially renamed Benin in 1975, with the change enacted by the government of Lt. Col Kerekou, who came to power in a 1972 coup d'état. #History #togolais228🇹🇬 #benintiktok🇧🇯 #africa #surualifupi #dahomey
