Audrey was found as a stray. A citizen called her into animal control after finding her on their property. She had swelling in her face that was affecting one of her eyes, she had bloody nasal discharge, she was very dumpy and weak, her heart was enlarged, and her blood pressure was high. She had minor skin issues and you could tell she had been on her own for a while. There is no denying that this poor girl was suffering. Estimated to be 10 years old, the odds were not in her favor. We saved her from the shelter anyways. We weren’t very hopeful, but we were at least hoping we could make her comfortable and spoil her for a few days/weeks. She deserved that ending. One of our fosters, Michelle, went to pick her up from the shelter yesterday evening and took her to meet one of our adopters, Lynlee, who drove Audrey to the ER. Audrey stole Lynlee’s heart instantly and vice versa. Audrey was miserable but was very sweet and even leaned into Lynlee’s kisses. Lynlee waited in the lobby while the vet examined Audrey. They called us and spoke about how much she was suffering, and how unfair it would be to ask her to continue on. We wanted more for Audrey but we agreed. Lynlee ran to grab her a cheeseburger but she was understandably not in the mood for yummy food. Lynlee decided that Audrey shouldn’t pass away without a family, so she told her she was getting adopted, and then they FaceTimed Audrey’s new dad, Matt, so he could say hello & goodbye. Audrey was only in our care for about 3 hours, but there is no doubt she knew love. We are heartbroken that it was too late for her, but we’re thankful she’s no longer suffering alone silently. Sometimes we are just too late, and although we cannot offer a happy ending, we can offer peace. With the help of Michelle and Lynlee, Audrey is at peace now. She is not walking this Earth anymore but she will live on in our hearts. To prevent unwanted suffering strays, please spay & neuter your pets and don’t abandon them. Fly high, Audrey 🪽
