Out of curiosity, did you know we have quite a few doulas who sign in Utah? If you did what made you choose to not have one present? I’m HoH and a retired doula but still fairly active in the community so I like to help get the word out and understand how we as a Deaf birthing community can advocate and support the average birthing parents in the future ❤️

Are most ASL interpreters comfortable with interpreting at a delivery? I feel like that’s a very specific niche. Also labor can take days. You may need to swap interpreters every X hours.

I had my baby when I lost all my hearing, I was off to get my cochlear implant, found out I was pregnant. I had to wait till after, but it was hard. I didn’t know all the ASL yet!

Just curious, I was only allowed 3 support people, a doula would have counted as 1/3. Would an interpreter not be counted as they’re there doing a job just like the hospital staff?

Love this! You may need to request clear masks if those are helpful for lip reading. The doctor who delivers your baby will be wearing a mask and the nurse might be too.

Being in the hospital is someone that is hard of hearing. I find so tricky at night when I take out my hearing aids because I am unable to lip read that well. I’m so glad you thought of these
