Change happens through movement and movement heals - @josephpilates After I had brain surgery I was terrified to move my body. “What if I cause another brain bleed” was the repeated created thought in my head. At a follow up visit with my surgeon he told me everything looks great but I need to move my body more. He explained in ordered for the body to repair and heal itself - it needs circulation aka MOVEMENT. The inactivity of movement through the body creates stagnation, shuts down muscle mobility and restricts blood flow to areas that need healing. In contrast - movement increases blood flow which provides oxygen to the body to repair. Aside from walking which still presented (at the time) its challenges from dizzy spells, I decided to start going to Pilates. I learned very quickly the mind/body connection and within a couple classes I could already feel myself getting mentally and physically stronger. It’s been 4 years and this form of movement has changed me. I am forever grateful for finding movement that works for my body. My current faves instructors that offer this medicine to me: @sjadenyc - SJ has monthly subscription with an array of different classes. She does a live class everyday! @melissawoodhealth - she has a monthly subscription app that is amazing. Such a variety of classes and she offers a lot of pre and postnatal exercises as well @dana_levit - Dana offers zoom classes weekly. Check her Instagram for her schedule and be prepared to sweat! @studiohousepilates - @sarahbrookspilates is currently offering in studio private singles, duets and pods (up to 4) in NYC. I went last week. It felt so good to be on the reformer again🙏🏼. If not in NYC, you can sign up for a virtual class via @mindbody
