@sa_ramics: It's all over.... At least that's how a badly made batch of pots makes you feel. These I made around 2 years ago. They dunted. Dunting is a single crack some or all the way through a pot, which happens because of differences in thermal expansion; parts of the clay expand differently while they cool or heat up. When this difference is too much, the tension is released with a large crack. Dunting more commonly happens when the glaze doesn't match the clay very well and particularly on plates when they're only glazed on the top side. When the nerikomi lines are thinner the tension is reduced and this doesn't happen at all on those pots. I've learnt the exact amount I can get away with. So essentially these pots already had a giant crack through them. Time to smash them. I used these shards of pots and have ground them down to create a sand which I reintroduced to my recycled clay and threw more pots with them. So within some of my thrown pots are all this work that has been effortfully layered, patted into shape, sliced, pressed, slow dried, twice fired and glazed. Then dunted and smashed. This is part 1 of a series where I show how I have reused the material of broken pots and recycled them and made more. I'll be showing the thrown pots at our studio sale on 6th-7th December in Manchester @7limespottery #ceramics #pottery #reuse #oddlysatisfying #asmr
