@alongdustyroads: This is the road trip we did in Nevada... From scenic desert landscapes to quiet mountain retreats, the Nevada we found beyond Las Vegas is vast, uninterrupted, and linked by lonely highways and the open road. Here’s a quick look at our itinerary: 📍 Day 1 – Las Vegas > Lake Mead > Valley of Fire  We picked up our car in Vegas and cruised around Lake Mead, before heading to the stunning Valley of Fire State Park. The red rock swirls are jaw-dropping, and short hikes like Fire Wave and White Domes offer the perfect backdrop. 📍 Day 2 – Cathedral Gorge > Pioche > Caliente Next, we drove north along the US-93 to Cathedral Gorge State Park. Famous for slot canyons and surreal hoodoos, it felt like stepping straight into a Western. For the best views, walk the Miller Point Trail. We then stopped in Pioche - Nevada’s “liveliest ghost town - for burgers, bars, and classic Americana, before spending the night at our first motel by the railroad tracks in Caliente. 📍 Day 3 – Great Basin National Park With country tunes playing on the radio, we headed up to the remote, high altitude Great Basin. One of the least-visited US national parks, its alpine lakes and mountains offer a startling contrast to the rest of the state. The Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is a must-do, and there are several short to strenuous hikes. The stargazing up here was incredible, with the dark skies making it one of the best places in the country to see the Milky Way. 📍 Day 4 – Baker > McGill & Ely > Reno This was our longest driving day, racking up over 400 miles and far too many energy drinks! Most of it was along the legendary Highway 50 - dubbed the Loneliest Road in America - and it's probably a good idea to split it up on your own route. Make sure to stop in at the old pharmacy in McGill and say hello to Keith! 📍 Days 5 & 6 – The Cowboy Corridor We rolled through Nevada’s Cowboy Corridor, hitting small towns, diners, and motels.
